Introducing “The Clay Street Cyphers” …change gonna come

Setting the stage: on the corner of Clay and West Washington each month we do the “Clay Street Supper Club” and the last few months we have been rained out, some were even saying they could predict what would happen on the last Friday of the month weatherwise. Not this time.

Halloween last year we lost a boy only 17 at the hands of another boy 18, so technically we lost 2 from the neighborhood. The losses had nothing to do with Halloween but, as a result Halloween was a nervous time on Clay. Most were worried about trick or treating. There was an event held in the Stanton Center put on by Larry Griffin and Jim Turner that was a safe haven and there was…

“The Clay Street Cyphers” and it was an enormous success. “Change Gonna Come” Just watch, I need say no more…

And then the Cypher began: first crazy shoutouts go to Bryan Tucker for hitting the drums up, props to (in order of appearance) Proton of www.proandreg.com -you gotta see their music videos in the social network (brown box – top right of site), Marcus aka Awynpoynt of Flawless and organizer of the Clay Street Arts Festival, Q Wali of Clay Street, Lopez of Clay Street, Paul a super producer, Cool Pete of St Johns College, Timmy Grins #51 Clay Street, and last but not least on the harmonica…

Lets get to stepping

Obama said it, its about us. Now lets be about us, step up and be a part of the movement. We have a lot of work to do. We have to be able to count on one another, we need to work towards goals for ourselves, our families, and our communities. Collectively we create the hum.

There is a buzz America. Last time around we walked in fear and reacted as such, this time we walk with more clarity. We are seeing what needs to be done and we are fearless in our pursuit of a global balance.

Now get back to work America, its that good again and its not money that making us feel that way.

Peace
Grins

One more time: Vote for Barack Obama

Recently I was in the company of an older white woman, not in that way homie, and she said to me “a neighborhood named after a musically famous black woman would make a neighborhood appear ghetto”.

I say, in the words of the star of the most racist film of modern times, “not so much”.  (For those not so pop culture inclined that’d be the movie BORAT)  Stepping back to the original stream of conscious, its about time we honor the stars that America produced and by that I mean the stars of the jazz era. We often forget about those that came before us, we embrace the technologies of tomorrow with no resepect for those that trotted independently before us…too often we immortalize too few for too much.  Don’t get me wrong George Washington and MLK did A LOT.   There were quite a few others that had more immediate or local impact on their communities and they should be honored.   Maybe, hang Bertina Nick’s name somewhere?     I think that would be just due.  You all know how I feel about Pearl Bailey getting her place to shine too.

You see party people, we have to stop knocking each others hustle, we need to be less focused on what make us money but, more so as to what makes us people. We don’t know who WE are anymore, and the fact that you may have just remarked that “its cliche” check yourself. Your cliche. If the truth hurts say OUCH!

Tough talk.

Tough but, my lady friend is one of the most amazing hard working people that I have met in my time in Annapolis. She has my upmost respect. Its a case of what she said was racist, she’s not a racist.

Remember our boy? Check this vid and remember Barack Obama at the polls:

Get to the polls.   I don’t want to hear any excuses, especially from my people on Clay Street.  Every single one of you that are eligible to vote better get to those polls and cast your ballot.  This is bigger than public housing, or homeowners, its bigger than drugs, its bigger than the bickering, its time.  Check your box ladies and gentlemen.  Its time.  Bet you didn’t think white america was going to get it this fast did you?   They did and that’s more subject for after the election.

BARACK OBAMA 2008.  Make it happen party people.

Peace and Respect from Clay Street.

“Fight to the Top” a new single with Timmy Grins

I have been recording an EP to be released in late Spring. We are going to ship our first single to radio starting November 11.

The song is called “Fight to the Top” (Gotta Keep Rollin’) and it is produced by LAM from Self Expression Music out of Salt Lake City and features Pigeon John an MC from Los Angeles, California.

Clay Street is the arts and entertainment mecca of Annapolis…this song symbolizes what is going on back here…we are Fighting to the Top. Enjoy party people, download it, share it, send it, burn it, pass it, this music is like water…

If you would like an MP3 emailed to you just let us know…

peace and respect,
Timmy Grins
