Neighborhood Cleanup Wrapup

The neighborhood cleanup was in full swing this past Saturday, spearheaded by the Clay Street Community Association, quite a few volunteers came out to get their hands dirty.    Thank you to everyone who took a few minutes from their busy schedules to do what they could to get things shaped up.

For more photos go inside in the social network.  Bob Nichols from West Washington Street was kind enough to document things for us.

Citywide Juvenille Curfew

Currently the City Council is investigating the creation of a citywide juvenille curfew, a measure intended to stem the potential for violence.   This comes in the wake of another child murder at the hand of another child in the Robinwood Community a few weeks ago.

Currently, with the spring setting in and with the proliferation of time on the hands of kids in the neighborhoods around town it probably makes a great deal of sense.  Let the Summer set in, then re evaluate.

What do you think party people?   See you inside.

Quiet on Clay?

Yesterday there were some white people came by my house to visit and they were somewhat shocked by how peaceful it is on Clay Street.  These were Annapolis residing, knowing full well the reputation of Clay Street, type of white people and they were surprised by what they encountered.  Nothing.  No issues,  no car theft (although they did ask “am I okay to park there?”), no robbery, no drug offers, no intimidating looking groups on the corner, nada.   They were almost disappointed to have their long preconceived notions shattered.

“Clay is good”, I told them laughing a bit.  Then I proceeded to give them a sticker reminding them of what I had just told them.   Thanks again to that anonymous donor of the stickers, much appreciated.

Of course as soon as they left all the trouble came out of the closet, the fiends snuck out from the alleyway and out from under rocks, the entreprenuers made their way to their favorite corners, the wind blew trash down the street, gunfire started cracking as cars whizzed up and down the street, dice games broke out, melee just ensued…

Not at all really, although that is what the stereotype will have you believe.

Peace from Clay Street, its not what you think it is silly white people.
